A MAN crashed his left-hand drive road sweeper and died on the first morning he had driven it, an inquest heard last week.
Robert Page, 31, of Hopton Road, Barningham, drifted out into the middle of the A1307, in Great Abington, and hit a traffic island, causing his large sweeper lorry to lift into the air and crash down on its side.

He suffered a severe head injury in the collision, which caused him to die instantly.

Speaking about the fact Mr Page was driving a left-hand driving vehicle, collision investigator Pc Francis Crawford said: "The driver's inexperience of that type of vehicle may be a contributing factor."

Douglas said she had the purchase of a street-sweeper in mind, should Hoosick get grant money out of a partnership. She said the cost is currently too high to justify, but said the school district could use a sweeper to clean its parking lot.

The grant application is still in its early stages, said Hoosick Falls Central School District Superintendent Ken Facin. He said the school might be seeking to purchase bus tires if the school board decides to go along with the grant application.

"As we peruse this, I think we are going to find a lot more common ground," he said, adding that saving tax payers money is a priority.
